WATER SUPPLY WATERSHED. A small portion of the Upper Eno water supply
watershed falls within the western edge of the Township.
STEEP SLOPES. A few steep slopes (greater than 15%) exist in the east-
central portion of Hillsborough Township, primarily along the banks of
the Eno River.
SOILS. Most of the area outside the Town's planning jurisdiction contains
soil types which are suitable for both agriculture and urban development.
However, scattered areas, particularly in the northern tier of the Township,
contain soil types characterized by a high clay content which present 1
limitations because of their poor suitability for building foundations and
roads.
PLANNING FRAMEWORK AND APPLICATION
Orgard.zings.
The following Township policy statements represent the organizing concepts
around which the Land Use Plan for Hillsborough Township is constructed:
1) The Town of Hillsborough is the major growth and development center
in Hillsborough Township.
2) The more intensive, higher-density commercial, industrial and
residential land uses are most appropriately located within the
Town's corporate limits and within the areas adjacent to the Town
likely to become urban.
3) The agricultural character of the northern tier of the Township
should be maintained as the most viable land use activity.
4) The rural residential and agricultural character of the Township
south of the Town should be maintained.
Posulation Pro'ections and Land Reouirements: 1980-2000
One of the initial and fundamental steps in the land use planning process
is the calculation of the amount of land required to accomodate projected
growth in an area. Generally, the amount of land required for residential
Land associated non-residential and commercial uses is directly related to
the size of the population. The following tables summarize the population
projections and estimated land requirements for Cheeks Township during the
plan period:
134
