Areas in proximity to the designated activity nodes. <br /> o The areas to the north and south of the 1-85 - U.S. 70 transpon- <br /> tation covvidor are best suited for agricultural purposes and <br /> should be maintained in this use. <br /> o The small area in southeastern Cheeks Township adjacent to Hills- <br /> borough Township, and the area between Mebane and Efland focused <br /> on the 1-85 - U.S. 70 corridor, are best suited for low-density, <br /> rural non-farm residential growth. <br /> o Low intensity rural comercial land uses, occurring outside of the <br /> Urban and Transition Areas, should be located in proximity to act- <br /> ivity nodes to minimize and prevent strip development. <br /> o The area of the Township which contains the Eno water supply water- <br /> shed should be afforded the protection necessary to minimize <br /> adverse development impacts. <br /> In light of these allocation guidelines, information about land, in Cheeks <br /> Township was "filtered" through the set of locational criteria in order <br /> to evaluate the suitability of certain locations to contain various land <br /> uses. All of the area within the portion of Mebane's corporate limits <br /> which is located in. Orange County has been classified as Urban. <br /> 10-YEAR TRANSITION. The 10-Year Transition area for Mebane is contained <br /> entirely within the extraterritorial planning jurisdiction: In the Efland <br /> area, the 10-Year Transition area is generally focused on the commercial <br /> area along U.S. 70 and the rail lines. <br /> 20-YEAR TRANSITION. The 20-Year Transition area for Efland vicinity <br /> correspondsto the area defined by the southern boundary of the McGowan <br /> Creek sub-basin south of Efland and extends north along U.S. 70. The <br /> Transition area to the east abuts against the Duke Forest tract. The 20- <br /> Year Transition area for Mebane extends a short distance beyond the Mebane <br /> planning area along U.S. 70 and 1-85. <br /> RURAL RESIDENTIAL. The area in the Township designated Rural Residential <br /> is located north of the I-85/U.S. 70 corridor between Mebane's extraterri- <br /> torial planning jurisdiction boundaries and the Efland area. <br /> AGRICULTURAL RESIDENTIAL. In Cheeks Township this category applies to the <br /> vast majority of the land area located to the north and south of the 1-85/ <br /> U.S. 70 corridor. <br />
