population growth is anticipated for Cedar Grove Township the primary task
was to provide space for additional commercial enterprises required in the
Township during the plan period.
The following allocation guidelines, which incorporate the descriptive
framework of the County land use classification system, are derived from
the County and Township policies to facilitate the process of determining
the location of new commercial growth in Cedar Grove Township:
o The majority of the Township is to be maintained as rural and
agricultural since the predominant land use activities will remain
related to the land.
o Rural non-farm commercial development will be allocated to desig-
nated activity nodes chosen so as to avoid negative environmental
or economic impacts in agriculture.
o Industrial and high intensity commercial and non-farm residential
development will be directed away from areas that, if developed
at those intensities, would create negative impacts in the Upper
Eno water supply watershed.
In light of these allocation guidelines, information about land in Cedar
Grove Township was "filtered" through the set of locational criteria in
order to evaluate the suitability of certain lcoations to contain various
land uses. This information was then utilized in the classification of
land throughout Cedar Grove Township.
Distribution of Land Use Plan Categories
Land in Cedar Grove Township has been classified into the following Land
Use Plan Categories according to the public policies expressed in the
Plan, the set of locational criteria defining the appropriateness of the
physical environmental context for future development, and the Township's
projected population change and resulting land requirements:
AGRI RESIDENTIAL. The majority of the Township is designated
Agricultural-Residential as in the future the predominant land use acti-
vities will remain related to the land.
WATER SUPPLY WATERSHED. That portion of the Upper Eno water supply water-
shed which extends into Cedar Grove Township has been designated as a water
supply watershed.
In addition to classifying the land in the Township, the County's land
use planning strategy has been to identify and evaluate. a number of poten-
tial activity nodes in the Township. The purpose of this activity is to
direct commercial and industrial uses to the most appropriate areas in the
Township, preventing strip-type development, and promoting a more compact
and efficient land use pattern focused on major intersections in the
Township.
A total of six activity nodes have been designated in Cedar Grove Township,
REFERENCE: CG-1, Carr
LOCATION: N.C. 49 and Carr Store Road (SR innin _
