The least important roads (local roads) function in the most <br /> limited service capacity, but in aggregate provide large land areas with <br /> access to the more important roads and highways. <br /> The rajor Township roads are the arterial highways, N.C. 86 and N.C. 49, <br /> both important north/south transportation routes. The collector roads <br /> providing access to these arterials include Efland-.Cedar Grove Road <br /> (SR 1004), Carr Store Road (SR 1352), Oorpett Ridge Road* (SE <br /> 1004), Walnut Grove Church Road (SR 1001), Little River Church Road <br /> (SR 1543), Wilkerson Road (SR 1507), Lynch Store Road (SR 1364), Saw <br /> Mill Road (S 1545) and Schley Road. ( R41548). All other roads are <br /> considered to provide a local level of service. <br /> Agriculture <br /> Cedar Grove Township is one of Orange County's most important agricultural <br /> areas. Major agricultural activities in Cedar Grove Township are tobacco <br /> farming, dairying and hog production. <br /> Tobacco production in Orange County is centered in Cedar Grove Township, <br /> Nearly 2,600 acres of the crop were harvested in 1978, each acre averag- <br /> ing almost 2,500 dollars in revenue. Total farm revenue from tobacco in <br /> the County in 1978 was 6.3 million dollars making it second only to dairy- <br /> ing as a source of farm income. <br /> Five significant dairy operations are located in Cedar Grove with an esti- <br /> mated total of over 400 cows.
