I * , <br /> ATTACHMENT D3 <br /> The following resolution was introduced by Alderman Nancy White and duly seco <br /> by Alderman Douglas Sharer. <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF CARRBORO RESOLVES: <br /> WHEREAS, the jurisdiction of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, <br /> Mebane, and Orange County do hereby declare that all road names are of the <br /> highest public interest in protectinry the public health, safety and welfare, <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, duplicated or similar sounding road names constitute a t <br /> to the public health, safety and welfare, and <br /> WHEREAS, duplicated or similar sounding road names do cause citiz <br /> communication center dispatchers, law enforcement, fire and ambulance personr., <br /> confusion, doubt or error and results in the incorrect dispatch of emergency <br /> services, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, through recomm( <br /> dations of its Road Naming Advisory Committee has accepted all Municipal strew <br /> names and renamed the roads in unincorporated Orange County accordingly, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, Mebane, <br /> and Orange County do approve new subdivision plats, accept streets and therefc <br /> control the naming of new roads, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel.: <br /> Hillsborough, Mebane, and Orange County do hereby declare it is in the public <br /> interest to avoid duplicating road names, and ' <br /> Resolved to establish the Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Meb <br /> and Orange County Intergovernmental Road Naming Program, and <br /> Resolved to provide all new approved road names to Orange County, <br /> and to receive from Orange County a Master List of road names to be used to <br /> avoid duplication of said road names, and <br /> Resolved to take any additional action deemed necessary to avoid <br /> duplication of road and street names. <br /> The foregoing resolution having been submitted to a vote received the following <br /> vote and was duly adopted this the 22nd day of July, 1980: <br /> Ayes: Douglas Sharer, Steve Rose, Ernie Patterson, Braxton Foushee, John Boor, <br /> Nancy White <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent or Execused: None <br /> PECU <br /> JUL 3 0 1980 <br />
