Performs administrative Work in advising war veterans and depender <br /> of their rights and benefits. <br /> .-DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> ! . <br /> An employee in this class is responsible for interviewing veterans <br /> and dependents to determine their eligibility for benefits •allowable. <br /> under state and federal laws. Work includes responsibility for processi.ng <br /> applications to the Veterans Administration to secure benefits such as <br /> pensions, government insurance; disability compensation, hospital <br /> treatment, loans, scholarships, and burial, allowances. Considerable-tact <br /> and courtesy are required in explaining the various benefits available <br /> to veterans and their dependents. Employee must exercise considerable <br /> independent judgment and initiative in applying laws and policies to <br /> individual cases. General supervision is received from a regional <br /> I representative of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans <br /> Affairs and the Board of County Commissioners. Work is evaluated throu.,:,.h <br /> periodic reports, conferences, and the overall effectiveness of'the Loci I <br /> veterans service program. <br /> ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK <br /> Interviews veterans or their dependents to determine eligibility <br /> 1 0 ,-, service benefits; gathers supporting documentary evidence; processes <br /> claims through the Veterans Administration. <br /> Completes applications for federal and state-benefits such as <br /> pensions, disability compensation, hospital treatment, Loans, scholarzMas <br /> and burial allowances. <br /> Investigates veteran's status as an indigent hospital treatment <br /> case, and if eligible, obtains admittance to a Veterans Administratiwi <br /> Hospital. <br /> Advises persons currently in the armed forces concerning family <br /> 1 allotments, hardships, disability provisions, and the proper procedureL <br /> a <br /> 1 for obtaining a discharge. . <br /> A Acts on veteran's behalf in preparing and presenting appeals to t; <br /> Veterans Administration. . <br /> Assists pensioned veterans and widows in completing their annual <br /> 1! , income tax forms. <br /> Prepares period/6 written reports indicating the number of claims <br /> 11 processed, contacts made, and the volume of work accomplished. <br /> il Performs related work as assigned. <br /> KNOWLEDGES.
