AIP IV lists one short-term priority objective directly relevant to he <br /> department activities recently begun or in need of further development <br /> C "Initiate a project in HSA IV to fulfill unmet needs for nutrition edu( <br /> among high risk pregnant women and mothers of newborn infants." <br /> HSP IV contains several goals which will require increased emphas: <br /> certain activities by the health department: <br /> a. Reduce, by 1986, the number of adolescent pregnancies (in HSA TV) <br /> 30%. <br /> b. Provide family planning services to all persons of childbearing age <br /> HSA IV who need and/or desire such services. <br /> c. Assure that an increasing number of pregnant women in HSA IV will r <br /> early and continuing prenatal care, including medical, social, and <br /> support services. <br /> d. Reduce, by 1985, the incidence of physical child neglect/abuse in E <br /> by 50%. Assure that all neglected/abused children and their family <br /> HSA IV are provided comprehensive, coordinated services aimed at <br /> restoring the family situations to one of health and safety for the <br /> children. <br /> e. To improve the availability of health education programs and activi <br /> in HSA IV. <br /> f. To advocate and maintain quality health education services in HSA I <br /> g. To increase the extent to which health education programs/services <br /> offered in HSA IV are accessible to their target populations. <br /> h. Improve the nutritional status of all residents in HSA TV. <br /> B. Community Health and Local Management Needs <br /> 1. Teen pregnancy and infant mortality are two areas of particular concern <br /> the environmental, area, functioning of septic systems approved under olc <br /> standards is a major concern. <br /> 2. At this time, it does not appear that program s are lacking to address ur <br /> needs identified. <br /> 3. Local health department management issues.— <br /> a. Systems for accounting, records, personnel.--At this time the greate <br /> needs are in the areas of accounting and records. The expansion of <br /> collections to third parties in services additional to family planni <br /> pointed out a need for improved recording of accounts receivables an <br /> revenues. Immediate needs, expected to be met by the end of fiscal <br /> 1981, are training of staff and initiation of improved bookkeeping <br /> procedures. <br /> The need in the area of medical records is for adequately train <br /> staff and increased quality assurance through records reviews. <br /> b. Physical plant.--Much of the service provided by the health departure <br /> is of a staff-to-client nature. Most staff must use their own vehic <br /> and are reimbursed an inadequate amount (190) for mileage incurred. <br /> The optimal solution to this problem would be more vehicles supplied <br /> the county available to staff. <br />
