(e) prevent or regulate the construction of flood barriers whic <br /> unnaturally divert flood waters or which may increase flood <br /> to other lands. <br /> 1.4 OBJECTIVES <br /> The objectives of this ordinance are: <br /> (a) to protect human life and health; <br /> (b) to minimize expenditure of public money for costly flood con <br /> projects; <br /> (c) to minimize the need for rescue and relief efforts associate <br /> flood and generally undertaken at the expense of the general <br /> (d) to minimize prolonged business interruptions; <br /> (e) to minimize damage to public facilities and utilities such a6 <br /> and gas mains, electric, telephone and sewer lines, streets <br /> bridges located in flood plains; <br /> (f) to help maintain a stable tax base by providing for the sound <br /> and development of flood prone areas in such a manner as to z <br /> future flood blight areas; and, <br /> (g) to insure that potential home buyers are notified that properi <br /> in a flood area. <br /> N. <br /> ARTICLE 2. DEFINITIONS <br /> Unless specifically defined below, words or phrases used in this ordinan, <br /> shall be interpreted so as to give them the meaning they have in common 1 <br /> and to give this ordinance its most reasonable application. <br /> "22.pjal.." means a request for a review of the building inspector's interpx <br /> of any provision of this ordinance or a request for a variance. <br /> "Area of s.ecial flood hazard!! is the land in the flood plain within a co <br /> subject to a one percent or greater chance of flooding in any given year. <br />
