The flood prone areas along these two stream segments rarely <br /> ?7, <br /> exceeds 1000 feet and is usually much less. <br /> Soils: Little River Township has generally good soils, suitable for most <br /> kinds of development and land uses. A small area of predominantly heavy clay <br /> soils does occur in the northwestern corner of the township, an extension of <br /> a wide area of such soils in Cedar Grove Township. <br /> Steep Slopes: There are only a few areas with steep slopes (greater than <br /> 15%) in the township. They generally border segments of the north and south <br /> forks of the Little River. <br /> Agriculture <br /> The major agricultural activities in Little River Township are tobacco <br /> Jr <br /> farming, dairying, egg production and swine operations. Eight of Orange County's <br /> estimated fifty commercial dairy farms are in the Township with a total herd of <br /> over 360 milk cows. Four of Orange County's five commercial egg farms are in <br /> Little River Township, having between them over 130,000 layers, One commercial <br /> swine operation exists in the Township with some 300 sows. <br /> Little River contained, as of 1977, 13.4% of the cropland and 10.4% of the <br /> pastureland in Orange County. Combined, this represents 12.3% of the County's <br /> farmland.
