Bikeways , walkways and supportive <br /> facilities such as bicycle parking zones should be <br /> ..„ <br /> developed. Acquisition of pedestrian and bikeway <br /> easements with public utility easements should be <br /> made wherever feasible, as long as primary use of <br /> easement will remain intact. <br /> ;'- <br /> 12 . 3 Encourage arrangements of land uses that ease the <br /> expanded use of non-auto modes of travel, increased <br /> occupancy of autos and use of energy-efficient trans- <br /> port system. <br /> 12 . 4 Improve transportation services for human service <br /> r- <br /> agency clients in the County through coordination <br /> and utilization of available resources, while main- <br /> taining or reducing present system costs. Use <br /> private transportation providers as part of the system' <br /> service base as well as to serve the needs of the <br /> general public. <br /> i <br /> 12 . 5 Before another general aviation facility is built in <br /> the County, there should be a feasibility study under- <br /> taken to first, determine if there is a need for <br /> such a facility and then, to study the locational <br /> alternatives if a sufficient need exist . <br /> 12 . 6 There should be a reassessment of the need for I-40 <br /> and of the corridor selected with respect to its <br /> human and natural environmental impact on the County . <br /> 12 . 7 Because of the importance of the highway system in <br /> the County and for the purposes of effective long- <br /> range planning, including the evaluation of highway <br /> (traffic) capaCity, there needs to be a Road Classi- <br /> fication System developed which classifies major roads <br /> into the following types according to their function : <br /> interstate, arterial; and collector. All other roads <br /> should be classified as subcollector, local, minor, <br /> or private . The following major roads have been <br /> classified: <br /> Interstate : 1-85 <br /> Arterial: US70, NC86, NC57, NO54 , US15-501, NO49 , <br /> NC157 <br /> Collector: Mt . Carmel Church Road, Old Greensboro <br /> Road, Old 86, Weaver Dairy Road, Mt. Sinai Road, Home- <br /> stead Road, New Hope Road, White Cross Road, Crawford <br /> Dairy Road, Orange Chapel Clover Garden Road, Orange <br /> Grove Road, Jones Ferry Road, Damascus Church Road, <br />
