CATEGORY : HOUSING <br /> GOAL EIGHT: Development of adequate , reasonably priced, safe housi] <br /> an appropriate variety of types for all citizens in <br /> proximity to jobs and daily activities <br /> Draft Policies <br /> 8.1 Efforts should be to encourage the construction and <br /> rehabilitation of a range housing types in response <br /> to the need of various household sizes and incomes . <br /> 8.2 Housing types should be located according to the <br /> accessibility of public services and commercial uses . <br /> Multi-family housing should be built in Urban, and <br /> Transition Areas where urban services are available. <br /> Lower density (amiximum of one dwelling per acre) <br /> non-farm housing is most appropriate in rural and <br /> community areas outside of productive farmland areas. <br /> 8 . E Orange County should provide housing assistance for <br /> households in need through technical assistance and <br /> coordination with public organizations responsible for <br /> housing in the County including the Department of <br /> Housing and Urban Development, Farmers Home Administra- <br /> tion, the Orange County Housing Authority through the <br /> Chapel Hill Housing Authority, the Joint Orange- <br /> ChathaM Community Action Agency, Triangle J Council <br /> of Governments , the Community Development Programs in <br /> Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, State Housing <br /> Finance Authority, and the North Carolina Department <br /> of Natural Resources and Community Development . The <br /> primary coordination objective will be to direct the <br /> housing assistance provided by these organizations to <br /> those areas and households in the County which are in <br /> need. <br /> 8. 4 The Orange County Community Development Block Grant <br /> Program will concentrate its efforts and resources in <br /> those areas of the County occupied by low and moderate- <br /> income households and having the most severe housing <br /> and community development needs. <br /> 8.5 The Areawide Housing Opportunity Plan will serve as <br /> the basic guide for the allocation of assisted housing <br /> to the County. The Housin:. Assistance Plans for the <br /> County and for the towns will serve as the kuide for <br /> the allocation and distribution of housing within the <br /> County. <br />
