This area extends into Bingham Township from Chapel Hill <br /> Township generally coinciding with the boundaries of the University Lake <br /> watershed. The purpose for this classification is to designate land near or <br /> within the urbanizing area of Chapel Hill and Carrboro that should remain <br /> rural in character and not require urban-type services. It should contain <br /> very low density residential uses and agriculture uses. <br /> In addition to classifying these area; of land, the County's land use planning <br /> strategy has been to identify and evaluate all potential activity nodes in the <br /> Township, These activity nodes are generally focused on major intersections <br /> and represent a point rather than an area concept, They must also meet the <br /> additional locational criteria listed previously. Using the designated activity <br /> ' nodes as starting point, the next step in the process was to inventory and <br /> evaluate the balance of the land area in Bingham Township. The land classi- <br /> fication decisions which evolved from this process, are shown in map form (see <br /> Orange County Proposed Land Use Plan Map) , <br /> A total of five activity nodes have been designated in Bingham Township, Four <br /> of these have been classified as Rural Commercial and one is Rural Community. <br /> The following is a description of the activity nodes designated in Bingham <br /> Township: <br /> Location: N. C, Highway 54 and Orange Chapel Clover Garden Road (BH-1 ) <br /> Plan Category: Rural Commercial <br /> Analysis and Evaluation: This node is located at the intersection of an <br /> arterial road and a collector road. Existing commercial in the vicinity of <br /> this node include: 2 auto gas-service stations, an auto parts firm, a wholesale <br /> mail -order distribution firm and a vacant store.
