Rural Residential . This area of the Township is generally bounded by the <br /> University Lake watershed to the east, Dairyland Road to the north, Orange <br /> Grove Road to the west and NC54 to the South. This area has characteristics <br /> which make it suitable for rural , non-farm residential development. It is <br /> adjacent to the major east-west road, NC54 and near the Rural Community of <br /> White Cross. A proposed Rural Commercial Activity node at the intersection <br /> of NC54 and Orange Chapel Clover Garden Road is also close by. Commercial <br /> uses , either existing or future at these nodes will provide the necessary <br /> support services for the Rural Residential area. This area is also outside <br /> both the University Lake and Cane Creek watersheds. <br /> Agricultural Residential . The vast majority of the land area in the Township <br /> is classified as Agricultural Residential . This classification is to designate <br /> those areas where the land use activities are predominately related to the <br /> cultivation of the land or the use of land as pasture. The intent is to provide <br /> for the preservation of land suitable for agriculture, silviculture and horti- <br /> culture uses. <br /> Environmentally Sensitive. This classification applies to the 100-year flood- <br /> prone lands which were described in the Township Profile Summary. The purpose <br /> is to show those areas where development needs to be controlled so that the <br /> loss of property or human life because of flooding is eliminated. <br /> Reservoir Protection. In Bingham Township this classification applies to the <br /> University Lake and Cane Creek watersheds (In the case of Cane Creek the <br /> Reservoir Protection covers the part of the watershed that will drain into the <br /> proposed reservoir. ) . This classification includes lands that drain to existing <br /> reservoirs which are public water supplies for Orange County or to potential <br /> reservoir sites which have been designated for protection. These watersheds <br /> need to be protected from the impacts of development which could cause water <br />
