/°n
Agenda Item # 13
Request From The Board Of Health For Staff Assistance
The Board of Health has requested the Board of County Commissioners provide
county staff that would seek a solution to the "health hazard" their environmenta
section has identified in the Efland Estates Subdivision.
I have discussed this request with the Community Development Director, a
Planning Staff Member and an engineer. If you desire to respond affirmatively
to the Health Board request I recommend:
I. Board authorization to investigate alternative ways of handling waste
water accumulating in Efland Estates:
a. Pump truck
b. package plant
c. force main to
Or
II. Board authorization to investigate alternative ways of handling waste
water accumulating in a region centering around Efland Estates :
a. pump truck
b. package plant
c. force main to
This investigation, a Preliminary engineering study, would address the three
possible solutions to this problem both on a local and regional basis advising the
County:
a. The cost associated with each solution
b. Funding opportunities (grants) available for each solution
c. Implementation proceedures necessary for each solution
A preliminary study such as this can be obtained for $1 ,500. The staff does
not have the necessary engineering skills to perform this task.
Prior to making a decision to proceed the Board neds:. to consider the overall
practicality of the County moving in this area. Granted, Efland Estates has a seriou,
problem which will cost a significant sum to correct. However, there are probably otl
areas spread over the County that have now or will have in the not too distant future
problems similar to this. Are you as Commissioners ready for the County to assume thE
financial burden providing this service could bring about?
