Advocating <br /> for individuals who have disabilities, the elderly and impoverished is one reason I would <br /> love the opportunity to serve on the transportation board. I have previously served on the <br /> Orange County Services transportation board. My <br /> experience as a county resident dependent on driving and in helping people who do not drive get <br /> to work, appointments, shopping etc. in the county and towns give me a great deal of experience <br /> with transportation needs and availability. Prior to my current 30 plus years in Orange County I <br /> attended UNC and lived in Hillsborough in the 70 s and have experienced the changes that have <br /> taken place, and anticipate a tremendous need for forward thinking with regards to <br /> transportation here. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> Transportation is so important and yet we who have the privilege to be able to drive, afford a car <br /> and insurance etc. frequently take it for granted. Driving through Hillsborough and Chapel <br /> Hill/Carrboro at certain times is difficult and slow and is only getting worse. I sometimes fear as <br /> a driver that I might not see a pedestrian or biker and I have a fear for my son who walks in <br />
