1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 20, 2016 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-b <br /> SUBJECT: Presentation of Arts Grants to Recipients <br /> DEPARTMENT: Orange County Arts <br /> Commission <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Grant Awards Spreadsheet Katie Murray, 919-245-2335 <br /> Copy of Awards to be Distributed <br /> "Specific Attendee List to Follow" <br /> PURPOSE: To present checks to local arts organizations receiving State Grassroots Arts <br /> Grants and local artists receiving County arts grant funds, as reviewed and determined by the <br /> Orange County Arts Commission. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Arts Commission awards grants for art programs to local <br /> artists, schools and nonprofit organizations from funds received from the state and Orange <br /> County government for this purpose. These funds are distributed for arts projects in all arts <br /> disciplines. Each grant recipient must match the granted amount at least dollar-for-dollar in <br /> order to receive funding. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The $32,590 in State Grassroots Program funds awarded to the Arts <br /> Commission in FY2016-17 (for Arts Commission purposes and for granting to outside nonprofit <br /> agencies sponsoring arts projects) represents a pass-through of state funds. As always, grants <br /> to individual artists are paid from County funds allocated by the BOCC for local arts grants <br /> during FY2016-17. In this cycle, $5,000 in County funds was awarded to individual artists. <br /> Any additional state Grassroots Program funds awarded to the Arts Commission in FY2016- <br /> 17will be used to help support local arts programming and Arts Commission programs. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or color; <br /> religious or philosophical beliefs; sex; gender or sexual orientation; national origin or <br /> ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential or economic <br /> status. <br />
