Chandler's expanded operations and <br /> activities would no longer classify as a light industry. We <br /> are not protesting against the expansion of a corner drug <br /> store or some other small commercial establishment. The <br /> constant roar of the concrete trucks and other heavy machinery <br /> wakes us almost every weekday. The general noise level and <br /> traffic congestion surrounding Chandler Concrete Company is <br /> already anything but residential . What else do we have to <br /> look forward to when this operation expands even more? If any <br /> member of the Planning Department or one of the County <br /> Commissioners was a residential neighbor of Chandler , we doubt <br /> that this rezoning would be likely. <br /> Specifically, as regards the property Chandler wishes <br /> rezoned, we think we have a fair indication of the company's <br /> concern for the well -being and property values of this <br /> neighborhood. Even before any rezoning had been brought up , <br /> the land was stripped of all vegetation and a large pit dug to <br /> store environmentally unsafe waste . So this property, which <br /> is still zoned residential , has been deliberately used as an <br /> industrial waste disposal site . This action seems highly • <br /> irregular and perhaps illegal . <br /> U9 think the public has a right to know who in the <br /> Planning Department allowed such de facto rezoning to occur <br /> BEFORE a public hearing could take place If this is standard <br /> practice , why have a public hearing at all ? Part of the <br /> responsibility of the Planning Department is to PLAN <br /> development for all the citizens of Orange County and not Just <br /> to cater to a local industry. <br /> For these reasons, we would like to ask that the <br /> Orange County Planning Department deny the request of Chandler <br /> • Concrete Company. Property values will be lowered; hazardous <br /> wastes will be generated; and the neighbors will have to <br /> endure the inconveniences listed above if Chandler is allowed <br /> to expand its operations onto residential land. <br /> Since we will be unable to attend the public hearing <br /> in person , we would appreciate it if the Planning Department <br /> would make copies of this letter available to those who do <br /> attend. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> • <br /> • <br />
