Judy Eastman assumed these responsibilities in February <br /> 1985. <br /> An installation of new members and officers was held in July at <br /> Alexander's Restaurant in Durham. Beverly Blythe, Clerk to the Commissioners, <br /> pertained the swearing-in ceremony. <br /> • The October 1984 and January 1985 meetings included speakers from the <br /> Central Piedmont Employment and Training Office and the Employment Security <br /> Commission. They discussed the Job Training Partnership Acts <br /> Florrie Glasser spoke at the March, 1985 meeting on flexible fringe <br /> benefits. This program informed members about the research of the Commission's <br /> Employment Task Force, chaired by Lani Cartier. <br /> Connie Renz and Fred Stang spoke on behalf of the Orange/Durham Coalition - <br /> for Battered Women in- April. The Commission adopted a resolution to the • <br /> legislature endorsing expanded funds for domestic violence programs. <br /> In May, the JTPA Committee, co-chaired by Claudine Harris and Alice Holt, <br /> presented an interim report. Laura Yost reviewed population program data.and <br /> responded to questions from Commission members. <br /> Sylvia Price, Director of the Orange County Economic Development Commission, <br /> spoke in June. She discussed how increased business expansion can improve em- <br /> ployment opportunities for women and the role the Commission might play in <br /> supporting appropriate business development. <br /> III. ACTIVITIES <br /> Employment Task Force. Commission member Evelyn Poole-Kober and private sector <br /> representative Audrey Evarts chaired this committee until November, 1984 when <br /> Ms. Kober resigned from the Commission. Lani Cartier, who was appointed to <br /> take her place, provided able leadership as the Co-Chair representing the <br /> Commission. Judy Eastman was appointed to the Committee in August. <br /> The Task Force produced and distributed a survey on fringe benefits to <br /> about 120 Orange County employers. More than 90 responses were received and <br /> entered in the County's computer for tabulation. <br /> The Employee Benefit Research Institute of Washington, D. C. , was <br /> contacted for nationwide research results and publications on fringe benefits. <br /> From the Women's Bureau of the U. S. Department of Labor, a commercial video <br /> tape was borrowed and, through the generosity of the Village Companies, <br /> reproduced for the Commission's library. <br /> Catawba County, identified as having a flexible fringe benefit package <br /> for all county government employees, sent a detailed description of- its plan. <br /> In addition, several identified private sector employers were contacted for <br /> information regarding flexible fringe benefits. <br />
