034 <br /> For the purpose of use of these funds, the investigative component of child <br /> protective services begins with the receipt of a report of alleged child abuse or <br /> neglect and concludes when the agency makes a decision that abuse or neglect <br /> ekists or does not exist. . (ie: substantiation) <br /> Adtivities included in the investigative component are: <br /> .1.. receiving reports of suspected abuse and neglect; <br /> 2. ascertaining the facts of the.case, the extent of abuse or neglect <br /> and the risk of harm to the child; <br /> 3. seeing and, when appropriate, interviewing the child; <br /> '4. visiting the place where the child resides; <br /> 5: interviewing' the parents, other caretakers and other appropriate <br /> persons; . <br /> 6. obtaining necessary medical exams; <br /> 7. taking a juvenile into temporary custody (G.S. 7A-571); <br /> 8. initiating court action for nonsecure custody (G.S. 7A-574); <br /> 9. - written notice to the person making the report; <br /> 10. . making reports to .the district attorney on abuse cases; <br /> 11. completing the DSS 5104 (send to Central Registry); <br /> 12. informing the licensing body in out of home care cases; <br /> 13. determining whether the child can-safely remain at home; <br /> 14. making appropriate referral(s) for on going services; and, <br /> 15. arranging for or providing emergency services necessary to protect <br /> the child during the investigative period. <br />
