PURPOSE: To obtain alloca'tion of part.-time.•Social Worker •II (20 hours per week) position <br /> to investigate reports of child abuse and neglect. The 'N.' C. General Ass'embly awarded <br /> $1,000,000 for this purpose statewide. <br /> NEED.: As kelated in our budget presentation the Divisio4-.czf.-Child-Prbiective'services <br /> is investigating an increased -number of reported:sexual- abuse and neglect incidents in: * <br /> day care programs. - The fiumber of s'exiial abuse •eases in- 1983--84.was-26 compared to the <br /> number in 1984-85 which was 'a0 't'e­ported'. The* number' of day care 'abuse and neglect cases <br /> in 1983-84 was 6 compared to the number in 184-85 which was 9. Additional staff is <br /> needed to complete these investigations in a timely and professional manner. <br /> IMPACT: orange County DSS has an- initial award of • 10,000 with some additional funds <br /> available upon reallocation from counties who do not establish -new positions by November <br /> 13 1985. This combined total will -be -available for two years. The County will re-evaluhte <br /> the need of the Social Tforker'II positibn at the end'of the two year period. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): Establish a new Social Worker Il position effective October 1, 1985. <br /> Position will initially be restricted to 20 hours per week with hours to -be increased <br /> as .funded -by .-ie-allocation monies. <br />
