079
Collins noted that there is more than 600 feet
between the intersections and this should be
sufficient .
Gordon referred to the issue of safety and asked
the Board what action it wanted to take.
Shepherd commented that good planning principles
had been used and that whenever a large tract is
developed, you want to Limit the number of roadway
cuts onto the existing roads. He feLt this was a
superior plan.
Gordon inquired about the relative safety of the
two roads.
Shanklin noted there was a knoll prior to the
intersection that interfered with the sight
distance.
Gordon asked if there was any way to specify
guidelines for the safety factor. Collins
responded we could ask NCDOT to provide information
regarding traffic capacity.
Gordon felt it would better to serve the developer
and the County if this item were delayed for a
recommendation
from NCOOT.
MOTION: Kramer moved to postpone the decision an the
project until a recommendation from NCOOT could be
received for comment. Seconded by Pilkay.
Kramer noted that the applicant should not construe
this postponement to be a negative response, but
just a desire to addresse the issue of safety.
VOTE: 5 in favor .
1 opposed (Pearson)
L abstention (Yuhasz)
d.
