Referrals <br /> were made to day care centers, family day care homes, preschool <br /> programs, in-home providers, and alternative arrangements such as <br /> play groups. Information was provided to parents on how to choose <br /> quality child care, how to find affordable care, and the, range of <br /> services and activities for children. A "Guide to Family Day <br /> Care" was published as well as six issues of "Children's Services <br /> News. " A more detailed description of the families and their <br /> needs are in the tables below. <br /> • <br /> RESIDENCE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS OF FAMILIES <br /> The target population for resource and referral was families who <br /> lived and/or worked in Orange County. Of the 801 families served <br /> during the year, the residence was: Chapel Hill - 597., Carrboro <br /> - 10%, North Orange - 12%, Non-Orange- County - 197.. For those <br /> 1177 persons whose employment status was known, about <br /> three-fourths worked in Orange County. The largest group of 279 <br /> was associated with the University of- North Carolina, with 171 <br /> UNC employees and 108 students. The next largest was the North <br /> • • Carolina Memorial Hospital with 161 employees.
