06,i: ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT <br /> ITILLSBOROUGH <br /> NORTH CAROLINA <br /> 27278 <br /> doom ctz. <br /> -N46 <br /> 4* WO <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: COUNTY MANAGER <br /> FROM: PLANNING DIRECTOR <br /> SUBJECT: PROVISION OF PLANNING SERVICES TO HILLSBOROUGH <br /> DATE: MAY 22, 1985 <br /> Following our discussion of May 21r I compiled <br /> information regarding the costs/benefits of planning services <br /> to the Town of Hillsborough. <br /> Options <br /> Two possibilities are being considered by the Town. <br /> These include: <br /> 1. Employment of a full or part-time planner. <br /> 2. Contracture' agreement with Orange County for the <br /> provision of planning services. - <br /> One advantage of Option #1 is that the employee would <br /> work for the Town and would be under the direct supervision <br /> of other Town employees. An "on-premise" employee is also <br /> advantageous in that he/she would be available to the public <br /> and the administration at all times. An employee of the Town <br /> might also develop greater familiarity of/closer ties with <br /> the community. <br /> Advantages of Option #2 include the lower cost of <br /> providing planning services; greater access to reference <br /> materials data processingr and mapping resources; and more <br /> interaction with professional planners for problem <br /> resolution. <br />
