(MEMO FROM PLANNING Mebane - 227-2031 DIRECTOR TO COUNTY MANAGER DATED JUNE 6, Chapel Hill - 968-4501 1985) PURPOSE: To consider work program elements and establish priorities for the Planning Department in the 1985-86 fiscal year. NEED: During the current 1984-85 fiscal year, the Board of Commissioners and • , Planning Board have directed the Planning Staff to undertake various tasks involving further refinement of the Land Use Plan, the updating and/or addition of development standards,. clarification of policy issues and the initiation of a strong enforcement posture. As the .Bbard of Commissioner's is currently considering the proposed 1985-86 budget, it is an opportune time to meet with the Planning Board and develop work program priorities for the Planning Department in the forthcoming fiscal year. IMPACT: • The establishment of a work program for the Planning Department, including the assignment of priorities to individual tasks or work elements, would • provide a yardstick by which to measure the Department in terms of goal: accomplish- ment; provide the Staff, Planning Board and Commissioners with a common set of issues to address; and to provide a means •of -considering'utrade-off's" when issues arise in the coming year which demand a higher priority.
