5
410 . Survey of Existing Land VSe.
The and use survey is important because it will
determine the amount of land in the JPA that is undeveloped.
Development Intensity Types assigned to undeveloped areas
will determine which areas can support additional growth and
which cannot. This data compiled with goals and objectives,
location standards, and population projections will determine
the form and content of the JPA Land Use Plan.
The approach to determining existing land use is one of
mapping all in-house data on existing land use and then
taking these maps into the field for verification/correction
purposes. We are fortunate in that Chapel Hill as part of
its thoroughfare planning program did a dwelling unit survey
in all areas encompassed by the thoroughfare plan. This
covers most of the JPA and Chapel Hill has made this data
available to us. Other land use information is coming from
previous surveys in the North Chapel Hill Area and the
University Lake Watershed.
Tentative plans are to send two people into the field
this week to begin updating the land use maps. .
III
1
III
