If properly related to buildings, trees <br /> can also reduce the amount of energy needed for cooling and heating. <br /> While the importance of tree planting and preservation has <br /> been widely discussed and agreed upon, many developers have found it cost- <br /> . <br /> . ly to preserve trees and economically desirable to remove them before con- <br /> struction. Savings from this policy are short-term, however, and developers <br /> often ignore the long-term and very much more real economic and social <br /> benefits. In order to reinforce the goal of tree preservation, development , <br /> types in wooded areas should have a low intensity level, with low parking <br /> demand and low building coverage.
