160 <br /> 1 <br /> PROPOSED ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENT <br /> ARTICLE XX, PEFXNITIONS <br /> ISSUE:. In a letter dated August 16, 1984 to the Orange <br /> County Board of Commissioners from Geoffrey <br /> Gledhill (see Adopted Policies of the Orange County <br /> Planning Board, March 22, 1985) the County Attorney <br /> advised that the definitions of gfarming and <br /> "bonafide farm" not be defined in the ordinance <br /> unless Orange County receives express statutory <br /> authority to define those terms. <br /> EXISTING ORDINANCE: <br /> FARMING The use of land primarily for one or <br /> more of the following: <br /> The production in the open of cash <br /> grains, field crops, vegetables, <br /> melons, fruits, berries and nuts. The <br /> raising or keeping of general livestock <br /> and poultry for the sale of such <br /> livestock and poultry for the products <br /> thereof or the breeding of such <br /> livestock and poultry. Farming <br /> includes any buildings or structures <br /> which are customarily incidental or <br /> subordinate to the farming activities <br /> listed above, including residences for <br /> the owners, operators or employees of <br /> the farm and their families. General <br /> livestock, and poultry includes those <br /> animals involved which are customarily <br /> and traditionally raised on farms, such <br /> as beef and dairy cattle, hogs, sheep, <br /> goats, rabbits and horses, mules, <br /> ponies, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and <br /> geese for the purpose listed above. <br /> Farming does not include agricultural <br /> services and processing, avocations' <br /> farming, specialized commercial <br /> horticulture, and specialized <br /> commercial animal husbandry. <br /> FARM. BONAFIDE The use of land for farming meeting one <br /> of the following criteria: <br /> (1) composing two or more acres on one or <br /> more tracts owned or leased by the <br /> bonafide farm unit; <br /> ggiilig <br />
