Smith
Planner
Orange County Planning Department
Hillsborough, N.C. 27278
Dear Ms. Smith ,
This- is in reference to - several proposed developments in Orange
County. Preliminary access to the developments has been reviewed
and we offer the following remark's.
George Horton Property on U570 -Business East of NC86
The vertical and horizontial alignments on US70 Business consist
of hills and curves along this, parcel ' s frontage. Although the •
posted speed limit is 45mph , the average running speed is higher
and sight distance from any proposed drive should be calculated
for 55mph along US70 Business. Driveway locations will need to
be selected to assure adequate sight distance.- The need for
additional lanes on US70 Business will need to be considered as
part of driveway permit process. •
Scotswood on US70 Bypass and SR1002 (Saint Mary' s Road) East of
Hillsborough
US70 Bypass and Saint Mary' s Road are both major thoroughfares
on Hillsborough' s 1967 adopted thoroughfare plan . Traffic
generated by proposed development plus existing volumes will
probabily justify improved sections on both roads. Saint Mary' s
Road is also a cross county connector between Hillsborough and
Durham County. - Driveway access to US70 Bypass and Saint Mary' s
Road needs to be reviewed closely in light of future traffic
demands. Mr. Ed Johnson of the NCDOT Thoroughfare department has
been contacted and requested to give a brief overview.of future
needs in Hillsborough area.
The south terminal of Carolina Loop (SR1586) intersects . Saint
Mary' s Road at US70 Bypass . This creats an intersection which
• E
;
• An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
