Schools ' Roofs <br /> • <br /> DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: YES x NO <br /> ATTACHMENT(5) INFORMATION CONTACT:County Manager 's. <br /> Office ext. 501 - <br /> PHONE NUMBERS: HILLSBOROUGH - 732-8181 <br /> YES <br /> HILLSBOROUGH - 732-9367 <br /> - CHAPEL HILL - 967-9251 <br /> MEBANE - 227-2031 • <br /> DU RHAM - 68 8-7337 <br /> PURPOSE: For the Board to receive .a report on the, status of, bid specificatian . <br /> preparation for repairs to the roofs of the two school systems . <br /> • <br /> • <br /> NEED: In December, 1984 the Orange County Board of Commissioners agreed to <br /> make supplemental appropriations to both, school systems to cover the <br /> costs of engineering services needed to develop specifications for <br /> repairs to school roofs . A condition of the supplemental appropriations <br /> was that the specifications to be developed include certain bidding <br /> requirements and general conditions ' clauses to insure quality workmanship <br /> and contractor accountability. In addition, the supplemental appropriation= <br /> were made with the understanding that the school systems would work toward <br /> the development of a consolidated request for proposals to be issued <br /> simultaneously by both school systems . <br /> Orange County Schools has completed its bid documents . They have been <br /> inspected by the Orange County Director of Purchasing and Central Services <br /> and found ta contain those bidding requirements and general conditions ' <br /> clauses requested at the time the supplemental appropriation was made . <br /> The. Chapel Hill-Carrboro school system will complete its bid documents <br /> next week. At that time the Director of 'Purchasing and Central Services <br /> • will inspect them for conformance . <br /> The next step will be to develop and issue a consolidated request •for <br /> proposals so that bids will be received in May and contracts will be <br /> awarded by each school board. Work should begin in early June . he • <br /> consolidated bid process shall work as described on the attached sheets. <br /> • <br />
