046 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Action Agenda <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Item NO.()5 <br /> Meeting Date: APRIL 16, 1985 <br /> SUBJECT: EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE coNTRAcrium CHATHAM COUNTY <br /> DEMI:MIMI': EMERGENCY SERVICES PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: BOBBY BAKER <br /> 732-8161 or 929-8109 <br /> YES <br /> PURPOSE: TO consider entering into a contract with Chatham County to <br /> allow Orange County Emergency Medical Services and South Orange <br /> Rescue Squad, Inc. to provide emergency medical services to that <br /> portion of Chatham County residents served by the Southern Bell <br /> Telephone Exchange. <br /> NEED: Until recently there has been reciprocal service provision <br /> between the two counties. North Chatham Rescue has provided <br /> fire coverage for the White Cross section of Orange Co4nty while <br /> South Orange Rescue and Orange County have provid6temergency <br /> medical service to the northern section of Chatham County <br /> bounded by the exchange boundary. With the planned discontinua- <br /> tion of fire service to White Cross and because of the need for <br /> a more formal agreement the EMS provided to Chatham should be <br /> placed on a contract and cost-per-call basis. <br /> Four percent of the total number of EMS calls in the South end <br /> of the County are relatable to service to Chatham County. This <br /> tranlates to a projected 1985-86 charge of $11,571. There is <br /> provision in the agreement for updating the charge as call <br /> volume and cost-per-call conditions change. <br /> IMPACT: Would provide funding from Chatham County for emergency medical <br /> services provided by Orange County and South Orange Rescue Squad <br /> within Chatham County. <br /> The obligation of Orange County and South Orange Rescue to <br /> respond to calls in accordance with this agreement shall be <br /> secondary and subordinate to their duty to furnish protection to <br /> residents of Orange County. <br /> RECCMMENDATION(S): <br /> That the Board approve contract and forward to Chatham County <br /> for Board consideration. <br />
