Rec.) . <br /> 4.) Educational Activities Arts- and. Crafts classes for all five <br /> Orange. County Nutrition Sites (with. Durham Tech_) , materials and co- <br /> ordination with the Shared Learning program, Village Elders' Lee.- <br /> ture Series (.UNC, Chapel Hill Rea., DoA, Carol Woods) , City and <br /> County Library's Bookmobile_ and. movies, various classes offered <br /> through Durham Tech or Technical College of Alamance. <br /> 5.) Transportation to and from the daily nutrition programs, activ- <br /> ity and tie9.d trips, for shopping and doctor appointments a.ra..cogrdYn- <br /> ated through the senior centers. <br /> The senior centers function as a central resource to make community <br /> services: more available to older people through cooperative agency <br /> agreements. The two centers have continued to identify and encour- <br /> age agencies, organizations, and individual providers to coordinate <br /> their services through the senior centers. <br /> The Senior Center staff consists of the following: _ (1) one senior <br /> center coordinator at each center who develops and implements the <br /> center's overall wort plans, .(2) two part time Title V senior ' <br /> worker receptionists at each center who handle many incoming in- <br /> formation and referral calls, room scheduling, issuing Senior Tar <br /> Seel Cards, signing up people for classes and typing assignments <br /> and (3) volunteers- who do- a variety of jobs. <br /> 3. Highlights -. Chapel Sill--Carrboro Senior Center <br /> During its first. full- year;of existence the new Chapel Hill-Carrboro <br /> Senior Center has, exceeded its service objectives serving well over <br /> 800 senior citizehs involving 14,000 contacts. Many of the center <br /> activities and services,were coordinated with a variety of groups, <br /> some programs being offered at satellite locations such as the UNC <br /> General Administration, Carrboro Art School, Glen Lennox and <br /> Phillips Junior High School. <br /> Notices of trips and activities were printed in monthly newspaper <br /> articles, the quarterly DoA Newsletter, special program brochures, <br /> and a new monthly Senior Center calendar. In the past year, the <br /> center calendar has grown from zero to well over 400 readers. <br />
