TRANSPORTATION SERVICE <br /> Division Narrative <br /> 1. O verll <br /> a Division Goal and Objectives <br /> The Orange County Department on Aging's goal is to maint1,:n- a <br /> transportation program for County elderly (60+) to insure mobility <br /> to necessary and important community services. This year's objec- <br /> tiveewas to provide transportation. to 400 older adults involving <br /> 48,000 trips.. <br /> 2-.. Service Description <br /> f , <br /> The Orange County Department on Aging- (DoA) has provided transpor- <br /> tation. to the following services: nutrition sites, medical and <br /> human. services, shopping and recreation events. DoA operated four <br /> vans (one- lift equipped) and one mi r4 bus to serve rural elderly out- <br /> side the Chapel Hill. Transit area. The transportation service has- <br /> been provided daily (Monday-Friday) primarily on fixed nutrition <br /> routes with some demand response service. Routes depart and return <br /> from the Northern (Hillsborough) and Southern (Chapel Kill) Senior <br /> Citizen Centers, the Cedar Grove and Efland Community Centers all <br /> of which. house the Title III-C Nutrition Program. The purpose is to <br /> use the centers as collection points for senior citizens to be <br /> picked up and transported to other essential medical or human ser- <br /> vice appointments located in Hillsborough or Chapel Hill.• Daily an" <br /> rangements (ticket system) have been made for OCCHS (Orange-ChatTimm <br /> Comprehensive Health Service.) vans to be used for rural medical. <br /> pick-ups from Cedar Grove and Hillsborough Senior Centers to Chapel <br /> Hill-.Carrboro medical facilities.. Special shopping and Senior Cen- <br /> ter outings. have: been scheduled and limited to a group planned <br /> activity.. . <br /> For older persons living within the city limits of Chapel Hill/Carr- <br /> bore, but unable to afford a. transit bus pass, the. Department has <br /> purchased bus passes- as far as funds are available. The Department <br /> has continued to issue passes to Chapel Hill nutrition participants <br /> and to arrange special EZ. Rider (door to door) pick up to the <br /> Center provided by the Chapel Hill Transit Department, <br /> The Department on Aging Director has served as the Senior Citizen <br /> Transportation Program Coordinator on a part time basis. He is re- <br /> sponsible for administrative requirements (record keeping and report- <br /> ing) for the program and supervising the five Title V senior citizen <br /> drivers (paid) who operate DoA leased vehicles. Title V Receptionists <br /> at. each senior center schedule transportation appointments for all <br /> services and handle requests for ticket purchase assistance. Both <br />
