• <br /> • <br /> • <br /> School Health <br /> 1,211 school nursing hours provided <br /> 2,072 vision screenings <br /> 1,889 hearing screenings • • <br /> 655 in health education <br /> Additional to many vision and hearing problems discovered and referred, <br /> we recently screened 844 school children for scolisis. Fifty-four were <br /> referred to physicians and of those, 18 were found to need further attention. <br /> Adult Health <br /> 2,120 hypertension screenings, 1,150 diabetes screenings <br /> 450 pap smears <br /> 347 home nursing visits <br /> 185 education sessions <br /> The department is dependent upon our assigned student nurses to accomplish <br /> this home visit case load. <br /> Family Planning <br /> 1,729 clinical visits <br /> 315 teens enrolled <br /> 110 educational sessions <br /> The teen pregnancy rate from 1979-83 dropped from 101.3 per 1,000 to 47.9 <br /> per 1,000 (compared to State rates of 97.8/1,000 in 1979 and 93.5/1,000 in <br /> 1983). <br /> Environmental Health <br /> 774 septic sites evaluated <br /> 282 wells planned <br /> • 521 restaurant inspections <br /> 2 'food handlers schools' held <br /> 313 surveys of septic system completed <br /> Despite a State level removal of well regulations, Orange County's ordinance <br /> has been maintained and new wells are being installed so as to not harm <br /> underground water quality. <br /> FY '85-'86 Efforts <br /> The Board of Health has not met since this report was requested of the <br /> Director. Therefore, what follows is the Director's opinion. <br /> A. Present efforts should be maintained. <br /> B. The department should increase its health planning and utilize our signi- <br /> ficant volume of data to identify trends. <br /> C. Nutrition counseling should be added, especially to young mothers and the <br /> elderly. <br /> D. Pre-conception counseling should be added. <br /> E. Pre-term labor prevention should be strengthened. <br /> F. Adult health promotion in the workplace, starting with Orange County's work <br /> • ' <br /> force, should be added. <br /> G. Pre-School physicals and developmental screenings should be required. <br /> H. Computerization of the Department should be completed. <br />
