27 Commissioner Price said the opening of the Cedar Grove Community Center was a wonderful event. Commissioner Burroughs had no comments. Commissioner Dorosin said the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond heard oral argument on the North Carolina voting issues. Commissioner Rich said tomorrow is the Triangle J Council of Government's (TJCOG) Executive Director's review, and she is part of the review committee, and feels the Executive Director has done an excellent job. Commissioner Rich said the Community Home Trust was having an informative get together tomorrow night at City Kitchen, and everyone was invited to attend. Commissioner Jacobs said is there a meeting on the Mountain to Sea Trail (MST) on Monday, June 27th. He asked if confirmation could be provided regarding the location. He said the first meeting of the Firearms Safety Committee is tomorrow night, and he and Chair McKee would be attending. Commissioner Pelissier said there are some letters in the agenda packets from the Mayor of Hillsborough on the train station. She said the GoTriangle staff is seeking updates regarding this station. Commissioner Pelissier referred to the Light Rail Project, and said the Federal Transit Administration has been asked to delay rating the project until the status of the funding cap is known. Commissioner Pelissier said if the cap is lifted, the state funding would not be what was expected in the plan. She said GoTriangle is proactively looking at other sources for funding. Commissioner Jacobs thanked Max Bushell, Town Hillsborough Transportation Planner, for his responses to his questions about the rail. Bonnie Hammersley said the MST meeting is not yet scheduled, but staff is considering June 30th at Grady Brown Elementary School. She said there is a MST discussion scheduled at the Orange Water and Sewer Association (OWASA) Board meeting on June 23rd Commissioner Jacobs said on June 30th the Chamber has their annual event to honor the local elected leaders. Bonnie Hammersley said staff would look for another date. Chair McKee asked if John Roberts found anything on the Board of Adjustment (BoA). John Roberts said there is no statutory requirement for a Planning Board representative on the BoA, but is limited by the BoA's adopted County policies and procedures, and also by the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). He said the Board of County Commissioners can appoint who it wants and can amend the BoA document. Chair McKee asked Craig Benedict, Planning Director, if this was a position that could be filled soon, in order to have a Planning Board representative on the BoA. Craig Benedict said he would share this with the Planning Board at their next meeting. Commissioner Dorosin said he does not have a strong interest in having a Planning Board representative on the BoA. He does not see a benefit to having a person serve on two boards. Commissioner Rich said given this discussion, it may be good to send out a notice in order to garner more interested residents. John Roberts cautioned that the Planning Board is a policy board, and BoA is a quasi- judicial board, and a Planning Board member would need insure that policy opinions would not influence their actions on the BoA. Commissioner Jacobs asked Craig Benedict to communicate to the Planning Board that if it does not fill this position, then the Planning Board will lose the opportunity.
