Other activities <br /> which support the promotional strategy include work to secure the <br /> establishment of a quality business park in Northern Orange County, and the <br /> identification of suitable and available sites in the areas designated for <br /> industrial and commercial development in the Land Use Plan. • <br /> 1984, which was the first full year of activity for the Economic <br /> Development Commission, saw the establishment of the Economic.Development • <br /> Commission as a going concern, so that in the field of economic development <br /> Orange County now speaks with one voice, through the Economic Development <br /> Commission and its Director. Accomplishments include assistance to six new <br /> firms which have opened in Orange County, including the attraction of two <br /> major manufacturers who will provide between them 250-300 jobs in Northern <br /> Orange County. Other important activities included coordinating assistance <br /> at the time of the Cone Mills closure, responding to 41 inquiries from firms, <br /> promotion of the County at the MD & DI (medical products) Conference held in <br /> New York City, beginning the development of a contact network, assisting <br /> Hillsborough and Mebane in achieving the Governor's Community of Excellence <br /> Awards, and beginning the effort to establish a quality business park. <br /> • <br /> E. Whether in the Up-coming Year There Will Be a Maintenance of Current <br /> Service Levels or a Need to Launch New Objectives or Initiatives <br /> The promotional efforts described above are a New Initiative for <br /> the Economic Development Commission, representing an effort at positive <br /> outreach, not just responding to inquiries. The response to inquiries and <br /> developing a contact network is a continuous effort, and while the impact of <br /> the positive promotional strategy will likely not be felt immediately, <br /> monitoring the impact and the interest generated in the form of new inquiries <br /> will be a significant element of the workload in late 1985.
