Mission of Department <br /> The primary mission of the Economic Development Commission is to •. <br /> carry out an economic development program for all portions of the.County and <br /> its encompassed . municipalities, which will provide job opportunities for <br /> Orange County citizens and strengthen the tax base; the • major focus is on <br /> providing advice and assistance to new-start local enterprises, assisting <br /> businesses wishing to alter or expand operation, and to prospects desiring to <br /> locate in the County. <br /> • <br /> B. Functional Organization to Accomplish Mission <br /> The Economic Development Commission is made up of nine voting <br /> members appointed to three year terms by the Board of County Commissioners. <br /> Members are representatives of business and the communities in the entire <br /> County: four are from the County at large, and one each from the four towns . • <br /> and the Chamber of Commerces. The County Manager and the Town Managers serve <br /> as ex-officio members of the Commission • <br /> The Economic Development Commission is staffed by a full-time <br /> professional Director and a part-time secretary, with an annual budget funded <br /> by the County (56%), the Chambers (20%) and the municipalities (6% each). <br /> The office of the Commission was located in the Old Courthouse during its <br /> first year, and will move in January, 1985 to 117 Churton Street, <br /> Hillsborough. <br />
