MISSION OF DEPARTMENT: • <br /> • <br /> The agency's mission is to provide accessihle, wholesome, leisure opportunities <br /> to the county-citizens by initiating, coordinating and/or facilitating efforts <br /> for service delivery. <br /> • <br /> B. FUNCTIONAL ORGANIZATION TO ACCOMPLISH MISSION: <br /> The County is subdivided into 4.geographic service districts (similar to <br /> Elementary School Districts) each of which is administered by a professional • <br /> recreator with a "generalist" approach to providing service; each is supplemented <br /> by a business, management or an administrative educational background. These- <br /> field supervisor i are supervised and administratively guided by the Director <br /> and supported by a 2 person clerical staff. <br /> C. COMMUNITY CONDITIONS OR CHANGES (PAST OR PRESENT) WHICH BRING ABOUT THE NEED <br /> FOR SERVICES RENDERED BY THE DEPARTMENT: <br /> • <br /> Recreation and Parks through leisure pursuit has caused citizens to feel improved <br /> and relaxed by. experiences. The people of Orange maintain a comfortable posture' <br /> • by being 100 ,out of the 100 counties in unemployment. This fact alone recognizes <br /> that our citizens by working, definitely are confronted by more stressful <br /> environs and situations. The Olympics, and the patriotism which has evolved <br /> as an end product, has caused increases in youth participant registrations. <br /> The "Graying of Orange" ---- the recreation and leisure pursuit of our 55 years <br /> old and over population has brought about many additional staff hours of devotion <br /> to planning, coordination, liaison and actual implementation and facilitation, of <br /> programmatic •events. Of further noteworthy concern is the growing enthusiasm <br /> and alliance that economicdevelopers place in organized, public recreation <br /> opportunity when they seek communities in regards to "livability" conditions. <br /> The community's excitement and positive reaction to agency functions cause the <br /> overall program to be stable and highly desirous by citizens both rural/urban. <br /> D. OBJECTIVES OR SIGNIFICANT ELEMENTS OF WORKLOAD IN 1984/85: <br /> Agency programmatic objectives are presently at the 65% level of accomplishment. <br /> This standard of percentage is, however, quite positive. All objectives are <br /> derived and implemented on a quarterly/seasonal demand basis. (An in-depth <br /> program/participation listing will accompany final draft). Of great significance <br /> is the amount of work which has been accomplished in regards to areas/facilities: <br /> Northern Orange Human Service Center with Recreation Center, Fairview Park, <br /> Lake Michael Park, Homestead Community Center gift and the Lake Orange Feasibility <br /> Study. <br /> E. SIGNIFICANT ELEMENTS OF UPCOMING YEAR 1985/86 - MAINTENANCE OF CURRENT LEVEL <br /> WITH LAUNCHING OF NEW INITIATIVE - (BOTH SOUGHT TO OCCUR) <br /> * Northern Human Service Center - Cedar Grove <br /> - Heating plant - <br /> . new system <br /> . retrofitting of old system <br /> • <br />
