113
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMIISSIONERS Action Agenda
O
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT Item No. Et()
Meeting Date: FEBRUARY 19, 1985
SUBJECT: ORANGE/CHATHAM COUNTY LINE
DEPARTMENT: MANAGER'S OFFICE PUBLIC HEARING: Yes 2g4o
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: MANAGER'S
OFFICE .
YES
TELEPHONE NUMBER: x501
PURSE: TO consider an approach by which the two counties may agree to a
description of the line dividing the two counties.
NEED: Both counties have tax maps which depict the County line.
However, there are lapses and gaps which create unclearness at
several locations. This creates problems in tax administration,
administration of the zoning and subdivision ordinances, and
other activities (e.g. flood plane delineation, inspections,
erosion control, participatory paving, etc.).
Chatham County has requested that a joint project be undertaken •
to establish a definitive line. Our staff proposal to Chatham
is to accomplish this through five steps:
1. Mark the established boundary point of the
Durham/Orange/Chatham County line; the corner connecting
the three counties (Orange, Chatham, )\lamance) at the Haw
River; and the bend in the line where 15-501 crosses the
Orange/Chatham line;
2. Produce an orthophoto of the marked points;
3. Connect the marked points to establish ground control for
where the line crosses known landmarks such as roads;
4. Seek agreement of the two boards of county commissioners
• to a recommended line as determined from the orthophoto-
graphy which depicts the line between the two corner
points;
5. Produce and record a description of the line utilizing
the State plane coordinate system;
6. Install permanent concrete markers.
11,
