If properly related to buildings, trees <br /> can also reduce the amount of energy needed for cooling and heating. <br /> While the importance of tree planting and preservation has <br /> been widely discussed and agreed upon, many have itcost <br /> ' <br /> |y to preserve trees and bconomioa||y desirable to remove them boforecon- <br /> struction. Savings from this policy are short-term, however, and developers <br /> often ignore the long-term and very much more real economic and social <br /> benefits. In order to reinforce the goal of tree preservation, development • <br /> types in wooded areas should have a low intensity level, with low parking <br /> demand and low building coverage.
