<br /> The county has currently computerized all major county
<br /> departments and is recognized in the state as one of. the top
<br /> computer operations. We have had numerous national and
<br /> international visitors to look at our.land records and tax '.
<br /> systems. Several of our systems have been transferred to
<br /> other counties in North Carolina. Our tax revaluation
<br /> , system was sold to a third party and is being marketed
<br /> nationally and is currently installed in over twenty
<br /> ' locations. Actual cost savings are hard to identify. We do . .
<br /> feel the general computerization of the county has resulted
<br /> in substantial cost avoidance and vast improvments in the
<br /> handling of information on a county wide basis. The county
<br /> is providing data processing services to other local ,
<br /> governmental units in the county on a cost sharing basis.
<br /> This is currently being used by the three towns located in
<br /> the county and has reduced their computer costs as well as
<br /> :, improved their service. The Orange County School Board and .
<br /> the Orange County Clerk of Courts is also using this service
<br /> for selected applications.
