Mission of Data Processing Department <br /> The mission of the Orange County Data Processing <br /> Department is to provide support for all county departments <br /> by operating, maintaining, and expanding electronic data <br /> processing equipment and systems to best meet their needs. <br /> B. Functional Organization to accomplish mission <br /> We have three primary functions which are: <br /> 1. Operation of equipment (computers, printers, CRTs, <br /> etc.). <br /> 2. Maintain existing application software. <br /> 3. Develop new application software. <br /> • C. Need for services <br /> The department was created in 1977-78 and its <br /> priorities were to help gather, maintain, and disseminate <br /> the information being generated by the rapid growth in local <br /> government functions in Orange County. <br /> • D. Objectives and accomplishments 1984-85 <br /> Our objectives for 1984-85 were to maintain the <br /> ' existing applications software and equipment; Extend <br /> service to the Town of Chapel Hill and to the Clerk of <br /> Courts; Modify our existing Health MIS to meet new state <br /> requirements; Complete the Sheriffs system; Install new <br /> equipment for the Tax Supervisor and Registor of Deeds; and <br /> to install our first micro computers in selected <br /> departments. <br /> We have extended our services to Chapel Hill and <br /> expanded our service for the towns of Hillsborough and <br /> • Carrboro. One piece of equipment is holding up the <br /> • completion of the Chapel Hill extension. They are 100 <br /> percent converted over to our system but we are unable to <br /> hookup their garage. The software for the Clerk of Courts <br /> is almost complete and we should have them on-line by March. <br />
