6,- •r 51 <br /> active duty and to members of the Civil Air <br /> Patrol performing emergency assignments. <br /> 15. 1.3 The employee submits any request for Mili- <br /> tary Leave, accompanied by a copy of the <br /> military orders to the supervisor for <br /> approval as soon as possible after the <br /> employee is notified. <br /> 15.2 Long Term - A Military Leave is granted upon <br /> request, and with essential documentation, to a <br /> full-time permanent or part-time permanent employe <br /> when he or she requires time away from work becaus <br /> of one voluntary enlistment in the active or <br /> reserve armed forces. <br /> 15.2. 1 Military Leave without pay is granted for <br /> up to four years plus 90 days. However, <br /> extension is granted for the duration of <br /> such service in the event of a national <br /> emergency. <br /> 15.2.2 An employee who is honorably discharged and <br /> reports back to work in a timely way from <br /> Military Leave is reinstated to his or her <br /> regular position and duties held at the <br /> time the Military Leave commenced, as spe- <br /> cified in the Veteran's Readjustment <br /> Assistance Act. <br /> t <br /> 15. 3 Reinstatement to the same or similar classifica- <br /> tion, seniority, and pay must be made upon the <br /> employee's return to work, unless such a position <br /> I is no longer available due to budgetary reduction <br /> in staff. <br /> 16.0 TUITION REFUND PROGRAM AND EDUCATIONAL LEAVE <br /> Full-time and part-time permanent employees may be <br /> eligible to obtain financial assistance for the purpose <br /> of furthering the education and skills of County <br /> employees. <br /> 16. 1 Employees who are not receiving educational <br /> assistance from other governmental sources shall <br /> be eligible to apply for assistance under this <br /> program. The recipient must be a County employee <br /> at the time of refund. <br /> 16. 1. 1 The Tuition Refund Program shall be <br /> administered by the County Manager. <br /> 16. 1.2 All courses shall be eligible when, in the <br /> opinion of the relevant Department Head and <br /> the Personnel Director, the course will <br /> either improve the employee' s ability to do <br /> his/her present job or help prepare the <br /> employee for a County position which will <br /> demand a higher skill or ability level. <br />
