In addition, the employee's surviving spouse, parent, <br /> or other relative will receive $1,000 for burial ex- <br /> penses. Each of the employee's dependent children <br /> under 18 (or over, if incapable of earning a living) <br /> will receive $200. The employee's surviving spouse <br /> will receive $5OO. If the employee has no surviving <br /> spouse, the Board may distribute the $5OO to the <br /> employee's other eligible family members. Under the <br /> accidental death benefit, the total amount of payments <br /> to the employee' s survivors cannot be greater that <br /> $2000. <br /> 9.8 A LINE-OF-DUTY DEATH BENEFIT , FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT <br /> OFFICERS ONLY <br /> $26,000 administered jointly by the North Carolina <br /> Industrial Commission and the State Auditor. <br /> $50,000 from the Federal Law Enforcement Assistance <br /> Administration. <br /> 9.9 LUMP SUM DEATH BENEFIT (FOR LAN ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS) <br /> See Section 9.2 Death Benefit, this Article. <br /> 10.0 PETTY LEAVE <br /> 10. 1 An employee of the County will be granted seventy <br /> (70) minutes per month or fourteen (14) hours per <br /> year petty leave with pay over and above sick <br /> leave or vacation leave, with pay. Petty leave <br /> may be taken in increments of fifteen (15) minutes <br /> up to a maximum of two (2) hours, with the per- <br /> mission of the department head. (Full-time and <br /> part-time permanent employees only. ) <br /> 10.2 Any leave taken above 2 hours will be charged to <br /> vacation, sick leave, or leave without pay as may <br /> be appropriate. <br /> 10.3 Petty leave not taken by the end of each calendar <br /> year will be lost. Petty leave will not be <br /> allowed to accumulate from year to year. <br /> 10.4 Records of petty leave must be kept on the depart- <br /> ment level. <br /> 10.5 Petty leave may be granted for personal matters <br /> which cannot be transacted outside of office hours <br /> (i.e. , time lost reporting to work, medical and <br /> legal appointments, and absences due to adverse <br /> weather conditions). <br /> 10.6 Petty leave hours cannot be advanced to an <br /> employee, it can only be taken as earned. <br /> 10. 7 Petty leave hours will not be paid to an employee <br /> at termination (See Article IX. Section 7.3) <br />
