(c) Employees with ten (10) or more years of <br /> Y service may be granted up to twelve (12) <br /> calendar months of sick leave with pay. <br /> 7.0 HEALTH INSURANCE <br /> It is the policy of Orange County to provide its full- <br /> time permanent and part-time permanent employees with <br /> group health insurance with the option that an employee <br /> may include his child and/or family (spouse and all <br /> dependent children) at cost to the employee. <br /> 7. 1 Coverage will begin on the first day of <br /> Yfe,, <br /> employment. <br /> 4�f <br /> 7.2 Upon retirement, an employee may continue coverage <br /> an the group plan if he agrees to pay the premium <br /> to the County by the 1st of each month. <br /> Mfr_ 7.3 Terminated employees may elect to continue their <br /> group benefits for three months following termi- <br /> nation, if the employee: 1) had at least three <br /> consecutive months of coverage prior to termina- <br /> v tion; 2) makes a written request to the County <br /> Manager; and 3) pays to the County, in advance the <br /> full monthly group rate prior to the date the <br /> group insurance would have otherwise terminated. <br /> 8.0 UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE <br /> N.C. State Unemployment Compensation funds are financed <br /> in part by employer contributions. Orange County, <br /> therefore pays the required premium for your financial <br /> protection in the event you should become unemployed. <br /> 1 8. 1 To be eligible for benefits, workers must be un- <br /> employed through no fault of their own. If an <br /> employee is fired for cause, benefits may not be <br /> available as stated in North Carolina Law. <br /> 9.0 RETIREMENT <br /> Membership is mandatory for full-time permanent and <br /> part-time permanent employees. Employees become a <br /> member of the North Carolina Local Governmental <br /> Employees' Retirement System on the date of hire if the <br /> duties require the employee work at least 1,000 hours a <br /> year and the employee is under age 62 at the date of <br /> hire. <br /> VESTED RIGHT - After five (5) years of service, <br /> employees are eliglible for monthly retirement benefits <br /> based on salary, age and years of service. <br /> SERVICE RETIREMENT WITH 30 YEARS - After 30 or more <br /> years of creditable service, an employee is eligible <br /> for unreduced service retirement.
