43 <br /> which he/she works at least one-half the work days <br /> within that month. <br /> 6. 8 An employee with permanent status, who terminated <br /> employment on good terms with the County may be <br /> reinstated and returned the unused portion of his <br /> accrued sick leave if he is reinstated within one <br /> year of termination date. This is contingent upon <br /> the County Manager's approval. <br /> 6.9 No employee shall be paid for any accrued sick <br /> leave at separation; however, if he has taken more <br /> sick leave than earned, he must pay the County for <br /> all extra leave advanced. (See Article IX. Section <br /> 7.3) <br /> 6. 10 A new employee may transfer up to 15 days of sick <br /> leave from another local government, or state <br /> agency within the state of North Carolina, upon <br /> the recommendation of the department head and with <br /> the approval of the County Manager. <br /> 6. 11 Absences for a fraction or part of a day that are <br /> chargeable to sick leave in accordance with these <br /> provisions shall be charged proportionately in <br /> amounts not smaller that one-half increments. <br /> 6. 12 Sick leave will be cumulative for an indefinite <br /> period, and there will be no maximum amount of <br /> sick leave which may be accumulated. <br /> 6. 13 Holidays or regulary scheduled days off which <br /> occur during an employee's sick leave shall not be <br /> charged as sick leave for such days off. <br /> 6. 14 Each department head is responsible for maintain- <br /> ing supporting records, and shall be responsible <br /> for the application of these provisions to the end <br /> that (1) employees shall not be on duty when they <br /> might endanger their health or the health of other <br /> employees, (2) when due to temporary disability or <br /> illness the employee cannot perform duties re- <br /> quired of the job, and (3) there shall be no abuse <br /> of sick leave privileges. <br /> 6. 15 Extended Sick Leave in addition to that earned may <br /> be granted with the approval of the County <br /> Manager. Sick leave may not be advanced during a <br /> leave without pay status. Extended sick leave <br /> will be granted to an employee according to tenure <br /> of service set forth below: <br /> (a) Employee with one (1) to four (4) years of <br /> service may be granted up to three (3) cal- <br /> endar months of sick leave with pay; <br /> (b) Employees with five (5) to nine (9) years of <br /> service may be granted up to six (6) calendar <br /> months of sick leave with pay; <br />
