23 <br /> Disciplinary Action - to serve as a warning to the <br /> employee <br /> Following a promotion, transfer or demotiom - to <br /> evaluate the employee's ability to adapt to a new work <br /> situation. <br /> 5. 3.8 An unsuccessful probation period for permanent <br /> employees may result in dismissal at any time <br /> during this probationary period if the <br /> appointing department head determines that the <br /> employee is not satisfactorily performing his <br /> assigned duties. <br /> 5. 3. 9 A permanent employee may pursue resolution of a <br /> grievance in accordance with established <br /> procedure. <br /> 5. 3. 10 Employee serving a probationary period following <br /> a promotion, transfer or demotion will continue <br /> to receive all benefits provided in accordance <br /> with this policy and under other supplementary <br /> rules and regulations. <br /> 6.0 CONTINOUS COUNTY SERVICE: <br /> 6. 1 - Continuous County Service is the period of <br /> unbroken servies from the employee's beginning <br /> date of the current period of employment as a <br /> Permanent employee with Orange County. <br /> 6.2 - Continuous County Service is considered in <br /> vacation leave accumulations, longevity, and in <br /> other personnel actions as appropriate. <br /> 6.3 - Aggregate service with the State of North <br /> Carolina, or other local governments will not be <br /> transferred, and cannot be considered in <br /> vacation leave accumulations, longevity, etc. , <br /> effective as of September 1, 1981. <br /> 6.4 BREAKS IN CONTINUOUS COUNTY SERVICE <br /> Each of the following conditions constitute a break in <br /> Continuous County Service: <br /> - Resignation <br /> -Termination while a Probationary employee <br /> -Discharge <br /> -Change in status from Permanent to Temporary <br /> employee <br /> -Change in status from emporary to Permanent <br /> employee <br /> -Failure to report for work on the first scheduled <br /> workday after expiration of an approved leave of <br /> absence or extensionts> <br /> -Failure to report from layoff within five working <br /> days after the specified return-to-work date or <br /> employment interview date .cheduled by the Orange <br /> County Personnel Department <br /> exxxxemaximus.- <br />
