ri <br /> gyp. <br /> NEED: (Continued)' <br /> 3) Command Team for Emergencies <br /> The project demonstrates how the management of emergencies is <br /> improved by the procedure of utilizing a command post and command <br /> team at emergency scenes. Instead of each agency working auto- <br /> nomously these measures ermit <br /> p pre planning, information exchange, <br /> coordination of effort, agreement on strategy, priority setting, <br /> equipment sharing, inventory of emergency personnel and unified <br /> command. It results in maximum utilization of resources, improved <br /> safety and better outcomes to the problems encountered. <br /> lAY Senior Citizen Program Innovations <br /> This program, planned and staffed by senior citizens, demonstrates <br /> creative ways by which volunteers render assistance and information <br /> to others. The areas include workshops for medical advice and <br /> income tax assistance; lectures on topics of interest; and other. <br /> 5) Model Water Quality Protection Measures <br /> Project demonstrates how the water quality has been enhanced by <br /> implementing protection measures around existing and p otential <br /> reservoir sites. The measures include provisions for <br /> buffers, setback of buildings and nitrification. fields, density <br /> control, stormwater and infiltration, impervious surface rate, land <br /> use control, utility extension restrictions and best management <br /> plans to reduce sediment from entering streams from forming. <br /> 6) Ti)iproved Dental Health Among'School-A e Children <br /> This project increased follow-up to dental treatment of school <br /> children from 30% <br /> to 85%. Students receive dental care through <br /> private or public sources as appropriate. <br /> 7) Economic Development--Organizational Innovation <br /> fragmentation and intermittent efforts ..have been replaced by Orange <br /> County's havinq...established an umbrella commission for economic <br /> development. Commission composition provides for private and <br /> public partnership among the County, all municipalities and the <br /> business community. Its charge is aimed at stimulating development: <br /> of a non-traditional type. It is in accord with public sentiment - <br /> for growth that is compatible with the environment; aimed at <br /> raising the condition of the underemployed; and complementary to <br /> the Research Triangle Park and the otherwise medical and scientific <br /> research concentration that is in the area. <br /> IMPACT: None <br /> RECOMMENDATION: Select which of the projects to submit as entries. <br /> -2- <br />
