Insko, Coordinator <br /> Orange County Commission for Women <br /> RE: Proposal to Sponsor a Workshop on Home--Based Businesses <br /> O tTE: December 19, 1984 <br /> WORKSHOP TOPIC: Operating a home-based business <br /> GM: To provide information and support to at least 50 Orange County citizens on <br /> the home-based business concept. <br /> OBJECTIVES: al Provide: an understanding of the home-based business concept <br /> including a survey of both service and product-oriented businesses; bi Review <br /> the research process used to determine the probable success of the selected <br /> business, including support resources such as SCORE volunteers from Chambers of <br /> Commerce; c) Review financial aspects including taxes, bookkeeping and <br /> possible funding sources such as how to find and ottrack venture capital, d) <br /> Provide information on developing a 'fringe benefit package' including health <br /> insurance and retirement plans; and e) establishing short and long range goals <br /> and evaluating progress. <br /> NEED: Rlthough unemployment in Orange County is relatively low, the closing of <br /> the Eno Cone Mill textile plant early in 1984 created a pocket of unemployment <br /> among older women. Half of the 550 people employed at the Cone Mill plant were <br /> women; get one gear later, approximately 80% of the still unemployed (l0O-150) <br /> are women. Some of these women have indicated an interest in starting a <br /> home-based business. <br /> FOBMOT: The no-fee Saturday workshop will begin with an introductory session <br /> featuring a guest speaker and short film covering both the advantages and <br /> disadvantages of establishing a home-based business. Three one-hour clinics will <br /> be offered with opportunity for participants to attend all three. In addition, <br /> printed materials will be available to provide details and list references. <br />
