'PLANNING BOARD MINUTES <br /> DECEMBER 17, 1984 <br /> PAGE 21, 1984 <br /> U4' <br /> study. <br /> Walters indicated that there was support for an industrial park <br /> in the New Hope Road area, but there was no support for it in <br /> this area. <br /> Pearson asked what makes the New Hope Road area better than this <br /> area given that both were interchanges. <br /> Walters responded that there were houses in this area. <br /> Pearson indicated that he had previously expressed support for <br /> additional area here designated for commercial/industrial <br /> development and that he felt this type of development should <br /> be split between the two interchanges and not concentrated at <br /> one.or the other. <br /> MOTION: - Pearson moved approval as submitted to public hearing. <br /> Wilson seconded the motion. <br /> Pilkey asked if the Planning Board could sit down with the <br /> EDC- regardisng their industrial sites preferences. <br /> Walters expressed concern with the EDC's failure to do its job. <br /> Collins indicated that Sylvia Price wants to come and speak to <br /> the Planning Board and give a presentation on the EDC activities, <br /> and status. <br /> Kizer responded that the Planning Board has invited her twice to <br /> come to the Planning Board so.that the Planning Board could express <br /> itself to her. <br /> Pilkey suggested that the Chairperson of the EDC also be invited. <br /> Pearson noted that the EDC was supposed to work within areas <br /> designated by the Planning Board and Board of Commissioners. <br /> Kizer felt that this was not happening. <br /> Gordon suggested that_ the. Industrial Development Committee of <br /> the Planning Board prepare for such a meeting with the EDC. <br /> Greenberg asked staff to respond to the concern raised abbut <br /> groundwater. Smith responded that it was likely than any inten- <br /> sive use proposed would be served by public water. <br /> Greenberg asked staff to respond to the concern about similar <br /> uses between this interchange and the I-85/Hillsborough inter- <br /> change. Smith responded that the market would dictate the uses <br /> and that it was unlikely similar uses would occur. <br /> Kizer noted that this area was the ripe area in Orange County <br /> outside of the Watersheds suitable for these uses. <br /> VOTE: 9 in favor.
