Purpose of Work Session <br /> • Follow-up to the Board's Questions and Discussions on the Plan <br /> • Consider Approval for Staff to Prepare the Final Draft of the Orange <br /> County Affordable Housing Strategic Plan 2016 - 2020 for the <br /> Board's Adoption <br /> B. Information Provided for Board Discussion <br /> Information is provided in order of the following topics to assist the Board in its discussion and decisions on the <br /> proposed Orange County Affordable Housing Strategic Plan 2016- 2020. For each of the six topics and <br /> discussion questions, there is a brief description of the information that has been provided for the Board's <br /> reference: <br /> 1. The Affordable Housing Gap in Orange County and Special Needs <br /> Q1: The 1000 Units proposed by the Plan would address approximately 11% to 13% of the households cost <br /> burdened at housing costs over 30% to 50% of income. Are there any additional questions about the Goal <br /> of 1000 Affordable Units over the next five years (through community, nonprofit, intergovernmental and <br /> private sector partnerships) to address the greatest needs priority; rental homes for extremely low income <br /> (persons and families with incomes at or below 30% of median income and special needs populations? <br /> Followed by workforce housing and homeownership assistance for persons and families at or below 50% to <br /> 80% median? <br /> Background Information provided: definition of affordable housing and housing needs data on <br /> populations cost burdened, those with special needs including information on supportive housing needs, <br /> Single Room Occupancy (SROs) and units developed with the 1997 and 2001 Bonds for affordable housing. <br /> 1 <br />
